The Art a'N'd Glass studio was founded by Ann Bremer who, along with her
husband Fred, has operated it since it's founding in 1994. Beginning as a
traditional stained glass shop, the studio has evolved into a hot glass shop of
lampworkers. Drawing on the various disciplines today's work is primarily
glass beads, jewelry, glass boxes, kaleidoscopes, and fused glass.
Ann
began her artistic career early starting in middle school working with pottery.
As she developed as an artist she has worked in many mediums including oil,
acrylics, and pencil. She is an accomplished china painter and has created
and painted many porcelain dolls. She began her glass career with a class
in stained glass in 1983. Besides her own work she has taught many stained
glass classes and more recently, has taught the fundamentals of glass beadmaking.
In her career she has attended many classes and workshops including a box and
mirror seminar with Don Doak.
Fred's
path to the glass world has been much more recent. Trained as an engineer
his professional career has been in various aspects of the computer world.
Additionally he was a member of the Naval Reserve. In 1994 Ann began
teaching him the fundamentals of stained glass. Finding that glass
artistry satisfied he technical nature and gave an outlet for his artistic
interests his experience in glass has closely paralleled Ann's. He looks
to the day when he will retire from corporate America and devote his time
working with glass.
